GreatLIFE KC Takes New Approach to Country Club Model
Like many turfgrass professionals, Brent Stephenson’s introduction to the industry started with his family. Stephenson’s father was the superintendent at a 9-hole course in south-central Iowa where Brent cut tees, took out the trash and helped with anything else he could get his hands on. When he wasn’t at the course, Stephenson had his own lawn care service with 25 accounts, developing his passion for golf and the green industry, alike. A lifelong Green Industry Pro.
Today, Brent is the Director of Agronomy for GreatLIFE KC which oversees 16 golf courses and 7 fitness centers in the Kansas City area.
At GreatLIFE, it is their belief that healthy lifestyles support healthy families and enrich lives. Want to play a round of golf on a championship course? You can do that. Looking to train with top-of-the-line exercise equipment? No problem. You can even bring the family out for a day of swimming, fun in the sun and great food — there is something for everyone.
We caught up with Stephenson at Staley Farms, where he provided insight into his background, the best / most challenging parts of his job, and the traits that makes a superintendent truly “great”.
