Superintendents are typically in total control of any on-course activity, however “climate changes” in more ways than simply weather patterns have presented a serious challenge. Daytime temperatures were relatively static during the summer of 2016, however, nearly historic night-time temperatures brought about concern for plant sustainability and recovery. Turf products seemingly broke down faster and roots became stressed — no doubt putting pressure on Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois and Kansas golf course Superintendents who have to be tuned in around the clock to maintain proper soil temperature and moisture levels.
